Our experience developing an app for web 3.0
For some time now there has been a lot of talk about web 3.0, metaverse, NFTs and other similar terms, which refer to the next version of the internet and the digital world. Thanks to the DNA of our team and being passionate about always being at the forefront of new technological trends (augmented reality, NFTs or Non Fungible Tokens and geolocation) we want to share our experience developing a project which challenged us as team and in the end left us with great knowledge thanks to the learning curve we obtained from various roles in the company.
In the last quarter of 2021 we started developing the Web 3.0/mobile application for the MadDroids NFT collection (https://maddroids.io/). This app allows its users to connect their MetaMask digital wallet and the Opensea NFTs marketplace to visualize their collections along with the NFTs they have in them, giving them the option of linking their NFTs to images that will be read by augmented reality displaying the NFTs. It also has a geolocation feature that allows users to search for MadDroids in the real world, which gives them the option of entering the collection’s “Whitelist” for privileged access to the NFTs of the collection.
Here, we share the personal experiences of the team that was part of this project:
Yeferson Marcano, backend and frontend developer, shares with us that carrying out this project “was a challenge in the world of web3, which led me to learn about the technology and generated great interest in the world of blockchain. This development brought with it a great programming challenge. We work with the world’s largest NFT market Opensea and its programming integration. I also had the opportunity to work with the Metamask wallet that we were integrating into. It was a great experience gained and rewarding work.”
For our 2D Art Project Manager, María Gimena López, “it was exciting and challenging to work on this project, since it mixed novelty and ignorance; I had heard something about photographs sold for astronomical amounts, but nothing else and defining the intangible is so complex. Understanding this environment required a lot of research, a couple of internal meetings to discuss what we understood, and in the end, not only did we arrive at a project that mixes several technologies, aligned with the graphics of the Marketplace and MadDroids; but also to internal training where we discuss cryptocurrencies and the different uses we can give them”.
For Esteban Vanegas, who works as a frontend developer, “the NFTs MadDroids project was a great personal and professional challenge since I did not have the knowledge on several of the topics related to the project, including the world of cryptocurrencies, augmented reality and management of 3D models. From the beginning of the project, Press Start gave us training regarding cryptocurrencies with two objectives: to have a clear context on the main topic and to inform us about the benefits and dangers of the most used digital assets today. On the other hand, I consider myself a self-taught person with a taste for technology and new challenges, for this reason the opportunity to learn about augmented reality (AR) through the development of this project caught my attention; At first it was complex to learn, however, there is a lot of documentation related to these technologies and with the technical knowledge about development I learned the basics of image recognition, geolocation and AR”.
For our CEO, Luis Parra, this was his experience: “From a theoretical point of view, I felt I understood and was ready to use this technology in our software developments. However, it was only when we had the opportunity to work with a client developing their web 3.0/mobile application that aimed to unite NFTs with augmented reality and geolocation that I understood the huge mental and technological process change that must be done to really implement this new way of interacting with the digital world. Although it was an important challenge for us at Press Start to develop this project, thanks to our DNA of always learning about new technologies, we were able to understand this new digital world and make the necessary change in our way of thinking and our processes to successfully execute the project”.
Thanks to this experience as a team, we feel prepared to serve new clients who wish to take their companies to the forefront of new technologies and the new digital world.
